In Memory Of The Hon. Dato' Haji Abu Mansor bin Ali

The firm had the privilege of the guidance of The Honorable Dato' Haji Abu Mansor as a consultant until his demise in April 2008.

Born in 1936, Dato' Haji Abu Mansor (Barrister-at-Law at Lincoln's Inn) had a distinguished career in the public legal service and the judiciary for more than 37 years prior to joining the firm in 2001. After being called to the English Bar in 1963, he began his career as a cadet magistrate and became the Circuit Magistrate and subsequently the President of the Sessions Court. He then served public legal service as the Deputy Public Prosecutor in Penang, the State Legal Advisor for the states of Penang, Terengganu and Selangor. While still in the service of Federal Government, he was called to the Malaysian Bar in 1981. At the same time he was the Head of Advisory Division and Civil Division of the Attorney General's Chamber. In 1984, he was promoted as a High Court Judge (Borneo and Malaya) and subsequently as a Judge of the Court of Appeal in 1994. In May 1999, he was elevated to the Federal Court. The late Dato' Haji Abu Mansor was also registered on the Panel of Arbitrators for domestic and international cases with the Regional Centre for Arbitration Kuala Lumpur and also a Commissioner for Oaths. In 2007, he was appointed a member of member of the Kuala Lumpur War Crimes Tribunal by the former Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad.

Datuk Abu Mansor - a judge with a sense of humour

KUALA LUMPUR: Retired Federal Court judge Datuk Abu Mansor Ali will be sadly missed by friends and former colleagues.

Former Chief Justice Tun Dzaiddin Abdullah said he was saddened by Abu Mansor's death on Wednesday evening.

Retired Federal Court Judge Dies

KUALA LUMPUR: A retired Federal Court Judge of Malaysia and a member of the Malaysian Bar, Dato' Haji Abu Mansor bin Ali, aged 72, passed away at 6pm this evening.

Members of the Judiciary, the Bar and the public may pay their last respects at No 32665 Jalan Satu, Taman Selayang Baru, 68100 Batu Caves before proceeding to Bukit Kiara Muslim cemetery at 10.30am tomorrow April 3. [ ... ]

Some of those present here this morning may be taken aback to see me in the robes of an advocate at the Bar of this Honourable Court in that I am on record of having expressed the view that it is not proper for one who has been a Judge of our Superior Courts i.e. the High Court or the Court of Appeal or the Federal Court, to appear at the Bar of any of our Courts.[ ... ]
